Collaborative Effort Between Pittsburgh and Sarasota Resources
Odato Marketing Group, an advertising, public relations and Internet marketing firm with operations in Sarasota and Pittsburgh, won two national Awards of Excellence in the 2010 American Graphic Design Awards, including one for a project that was developed collaboratively in both cities.
That winning entry featured original photography and digital photo compositing commissioned by Odato Marketing’s creative team in Sarasota and produced by Pittsburgh photographer Terry Clark.
“This project was a dentist-recruiting package for a dental practice management client that takes great pride in its flexible, “no cookie-cutter” working relationships,” said agency president Rich Odato. “We illustrated the benefit by showing a photorealistic cover shot of a dentist inside a cookie cutter. The package included a brochure and a DVD along with a tooth-shaped cookie cutter under the headline `this is the only cookie cutter you’ll ever get from us,’” he said. “It created a great deal of buzz at the recruiting shows, leading to the successful recruiting of new dentists. Even the show’s speakers visited the booth to ask for a cookie cutter.”
The other project was a seven-state post card direct mail campaign. Using four-color variable printing, the agency was able to include advanced personalization, diversity and offer customizations in the post card concepts.
“We love to win creative awards,” said Odato. “But more important, the ongoing campaign is helping to produce thousands of new patient inquiries each month for our client.”
The agency’s creative director, Michael Brown, and senior copywriter, Melanie Reda, led the development of both pieces. The work will be published in the GD USA Graphic Design Annual and online at www.gdusa.com.
For more than four decades, Graphic Design USA has sponsored national design competitions that spotlight areas of excellence and opportunity for creative professionals. The American Graphic Design Awards, the largest of these, is open to advertising agencies, graphic design firms, corporations, publishers and more. It honors outstanding work of all kinds and across all media. The Award of Excellence is given to fewer than 15 percent of more than 8,000 entries.
